I never meant to be so careless with your heart
I was young and carelessness defines youth
That’s neither an excuse, nor an explanation
For the unforgivable cruelty of my ugly truth.
I never meant to be so careless with your love
So precious a gift was never so poorly received
Would I could wipe away the tears you cried
From our love of which in the end only you believed.
I never meant to be so careless with your life
There is nothing I wouldn't give to undo the pain you bled
But our lives are one-way streets
Now living with regret is my daily bread.
Had to have one poem for old times' sake.
